What do men have to do with gender?

When women’s inequalities – assignments to inferiority roles, functions and status – are highlighted, gender equality provokes reactions of violent rejection or recurring resistance. It is  also true when the same inequalities are evoked through men who, for the most part, maintain and justify them, consciously or not.

For decades now, these rejections and resistances have been the subject of analyzes centered on women, sometimes considered as victims of a patriarchal order, sometimes as actors challenging this order. To these legitimate critical approaches, we must add another, which has been much less considered up until now: the critical process of deconstruction of power relations between the gender can’t avoid the involvement of men themselves.
